Tom Benjamin Golf Early Career
early playing days

I began playing golf from about 8 years old when my dad took me to the local driving range for lessons with PGA professional Brian Edwards. I then became a junior member of the Celtic Manor’s “Coldra Woods” course. From there I joined Newport Golf Club age 11 and enjoyed a fun-filled and successful junior/amateur career where I had the honour of representing Wales at ages 14, 16 and 18, before turning professional on leaving school aged 18.

I turned Professional in August 2007 aged 18 and enrolled in my PGA training as Assistant Professional to Barry Thomas at St Mellons Golf Club.

The following month I played my first Professional tournament, the Welsh National PGA Championship held at Cardiff Golf Club where I finished top ten and was the youngest player in the field.
